A Tuesday Knicks World Recap Complete With Links

With training camp for the 2012-13 season now just about a month away, the NBA’s official “offseason” is oh so close to coming to an end. Nevertheless, a number of notable names with ties to the Knicks still managed to keep busy this past Labor Day Weekend.

Though most quality players are simply gearing up for next season, there are still a handful of solid free agents looking to be picked up by new teams. Josh Harrellson (the big man who was waived by the Rockets following his involvement in the Knicks/Rockets sign & trade deal for Marcus Camby) is among them.

And it appears the Kentucky alum may very well be taking his talents to South Beach next season. Harrellson is reportedly heading to Miami for a one week tryout (his second workout with the Heat this offseason) as he tries to earn a roster spot on the defending NBA champions.

While the Heat target Harrellson, the Knicks are apparently targeting a forward of their own with training camp just weeks away. ESPN New York’s Jared Zwerling reports New York is looking at Sean Williams to fill their void at back up big man. Click here to read TKB’s own Tommy Dee’s prospective on the potential pickup.

Not stopping there, Zwerling also provided Knickerbocker faithfuls with a bit of an exclusive, giving readers a glimpse at what Amar’e Stoudemire and Assistant G.M. Allan Houston were up to this weekend. Both the Knicks’ star and the legend participated in a celebrity panel (hosted by NBA veteran Etan Thomas), discussing fatherhood and being positive role models, among other things.

All in all, a rather quiet weekend for the Knicks, but it nevertheless produced a couple of worthy and interesting reads. It’s good to see some of the team’s more known figures making a positive impact in the community. What’s more, it’d be nice to see a skilled big man like Harrellson land somewhere after logging some solid minutes in New York last season.
